CRAM CRAM CRAM!!!

Grind Time

Our main focus this week was getting ready for our midterm presentation — this took more brain power than expected. We wanted to go beyond the typical “here’s our project” format, so we decided to build a story around our app. The goal? Make the audience feel why our product matters.

So how did we do it?

We wrote a story-based script that would connect emotionally with our audience

Designed clean, engaging slides that supported our narrative

Figured out the best way to showcase our app’s core features without overwhelming people

Most importantly, we wanted everything to feel natural, easy to follow, and memorable

Midterm Presentation Preparation

On top of that, we were also working on our Storyboard Reel Presentation. At first, we had this ambitious idea: two main protagonists, each showing how our app helps them overcome different challenges. It was a promising idea — until we realized it was just way too much to fit into a two-minute ad.

So we made the tough call to simplify — circling back to the KISS principle. We cut it down to one protagonist and honed in on the app’s main features. The story instantly flowed better, and we could give each moment more emotional weight.

Once we finished drawing and editing our storyboards into a reel, we wrote a new pitch script, designed slides to bring the story to life, and practiced until it all flowed naturally. After all this hard work, the presentation went super well! We got encouraging feedback from classmates — both positive and constructive — which gave us a clear sense of what to tweak for our finalized storyboard reel AS WELL as what we can keep/improve for our midterm presentation!

Storyboard Reel Presentation

Two weeks from now, we face our midterm presentation, which will basically be our safety net in case our final presentation at Telus Theatre goes sideways (knock on wood!!!).

The team divided and conquered:

  • Slides: Kaitlyn, Jamille, and Vy
  • Script: Me and Lucie

With the deadline so close, the pressure officially set in. Our dev team especially is feeling the heat. Right now, we’re all pedal-to-the-metal trying to prepare for everything that’s coming.

Full-Stack Progress: Watching It Come to Life

While all the creative and presentation chaos was happening, our dev team was busy turning ideas into reality. We’ve made some exciting progress on the full-stack side!

Our basic screens are now coded, giving us a clear sense of how the app will look and how it will flow. In terms of functionality, the recording feature is up and running — this feature lets users capture and playback audio directly in the app. On top of that, our AI-generated report feature is starting to perform well, analyzing the recorded input and creating meaningful summaries.

It still needs some refinement, but seeing all these pieces come together makes the app feel more alive with every update. Every new milestone reminds us how far we’ve come from that first brainstorming session.

Celebration of Impact Event

This week our lead dev went to represent SafeSpace at the BCIT Celebration of Impact Event — here are some notes from him:

Participating in the BCIT Celebration of Impact event was an incredibly stellar experience. After a long week of work and preparation, it was a gift to be provided this captivating opportunity to share our team’s project-in-progress and goals to-date. With both curious attendees and industry alumni present, I was able to thoroughly exercise SafeSpace's value proposition while showcasing a project that bastioned real-world change and meaning. Exercising our app's elevator pitch and methods on pursuing "a world that could be" really nailed in the resolve for the vision we've been striving for. It was also convenient getting some honest feedback and reception on the app's practicality and current direction.

Overall, this event was another level of inspiration. This night definitely left many things to remember. Seeing the energy and enthusiasm across all the booths that BCIT's program reps had to offer during this meet truly made the evening. We're glad our project could be a part of it, and I'm extremely grateful of our team and how hard we've worked to get to this point.

Looking Ahead

This week tested our time management, teamwork, and sanity (just a little). But it also reminded us how powerful collaboration can be when everyone’s giving their all. From late-night work sessions to last-minute script tweaks, every moment brought us one step closer to a product and presentation we’re proud of.

Now, it’s full speed ahead toward our midterm presentation. LETS GOOOO!!!
