Letting Go of Overthinking

SafeSpace Photoshoot!

This week, SafeSpace had an individual and team photoshoot for our LinkedIn profiles and blog! With Sam’s camera, Kaitlyn became a pro-photographer and captured the best photos of every single one of us. Jamille also helped out with the shots for Kaitlyn!

The day was filled with laughter, smiles, and a romantic proposal by Vy(?!?)! It was truly a day of bonding and friendship, even Yejin from team Scaffold came over to help with makeup— although, as a certified makeup artist, she was stressed about Lucie’s makeup supplies.

But nontheless, it was a great day and we got the most professional photos EVER!!!

UX/ UI: Wireframing

As Wendell once said: “Don’t overcomplicate”

So, Instead of holding off, waiting for the “perfect moment,” we jumped straight into building our wireframes. Once things started taking shape, the momentum kicked in and suddenly, our creative team realized our so-called “finalized” design system wasn’t so final anymore.

With wireframing and prototyping advancing quickly, everyone began exploring more components, more screens, and more ways to bring the SafeSpace experience to life.

Styleguide Glow-Up

Everything changed when Lucie introduced the dark-mode direction in her wireframes.

Jamille (our creative design lead) immediately knew the original pastel, feminine palette wasn’t fitting the vision anymore. SafeSpace needed to reflect strength, inclusivity, and confidence, not softness.

So we reworked SafeSpace’s overall style. We madeour primary colours a deep purple and bold orange, to symbolize empowerment and safety. We decided to get rid of the eggshell white for the background, and instead keep the dark theme going with a muted black for the background.

The new style guide feels like us. Strong, empowering, and welcoming to women and gender-diverse workers in the trades. Jamille spent the entire online week refining it, and we even talked about giving the blog itself a stylistic makeover in the future.

The Midterm Presentation Looms…

Two weeks from now, we face our midterm presentation, which will basically be our safety net in case our final presentation at Telus Theatre goes sideways (knock on wood!!!).

The team divided and conquered:

  • Slides: Kaitlyn, Jamille, and Vy
  • Script: Me and Lucie

With the deadline so close, the pressure officially set in. Our dev team especially is feeling the heat. Right now, we’re all pedal-to-the-metal trying to prepare for everything that’s coming.

Moving Forward...

Week 7 out of 15. We’re tired. We’re stressed. And yes,  we’re definitely worried about living up to Henry’s expectations and wondering if we’re even on track in his eyes.

But through every phase of the semester, Team SafeSpace always finds a way. We’ve pushed ourselves this far, and we’re not stopping. We’ll keep going until we cross that finish line — and if we have anything to say about it, we plan on finishing first.
