The First Team Meeting
Huzzah! — SafeSpace is now in motion! Over the past two weeks, our team dove headfirst into brainstorming, building, and bonding as we kicked off this exciting new project. Our journey started almost immediately, our very first team meeting and first consultation with our instructors were pretty good! All this talk about the project and our goals made us all giddy and excited for whats to come!
We discussed the initial pitch, started planning ahead, and began to see the shape of SafeSpace forming. At this point, we weren’t EXACTLY sure what direction we were going with for the app, so we decided that after conducting user research and interviews, we would be able to outline our main purpose and MVP.

The Start of our Research
Next came the deep dive. We scoped out competitors and realized: “wow, there aren’t many apps doing exactly what we’re imagining”. That was both exciting and a little scary…
At first, we weren’t totally sure which direction to take. Should SafeSpace focus on online support — like mental health communities and connection spaces — or offline safety features, like emergency tools and immediate on-site help? Although our uncertainty was scary, we pushed forward and decided to go all-in on research. Which meant starting at the very beginning, researching our competitors, with what little we have, and get a better grasp of the trades industry and how it impacts women and gender-diverse people in trades.

Moving Forward...
The next phase is all about digging deeper into user research, refining our core problem, and shaping the features that will make SafeSpace truly special. It’s been a whirlwind two weeks — full of ideas and collaborative energy. The foundation is set, the colors are chosen, and the mission is clear:
To create a space that helps people feel safe, supported, and seen 💜
Stay tuned, SafeSpace is just getting started!
