Coming up with the idea

When we got “The Email” mid-august, everyone was rushing to form pitch groups and share ideas with each other. However, at the end of it all, three students decided to work together and come up with a pitch that can win us a spot for the selection. These students were Jamille, Emmalee, and Vy. After a few weeks of brainstorming, Jamille (well-known as Jam amongst friends) came to us with the idea of supporting women and Indigenous women in the trades by providing mental health and safety support. And from there? We felt the pressure of presenting a perfect pitch and immediately got to work.

We experienced multiple discord calls discussing concepts, worked a late night at a cafe, and then practiced the pitch until our throats felt sore!

Materials & Manifesting

During our work sessions, we grinded and got together all the materials necessary for a successful presentation. However, our late night grinds caused for some nervousness and anxiety surrounding the entirety of project 2. So, to deal with these nerves, we got together a little manifestation board and used it as a chance to take a break and have some fun, while thinking positively which reduced our nerves!

Pitch Presenation Day

Ahh! In the blink of an eye, the big day finally came and the humming and whispers of the pitch presentation from all sets made everyone nervous. But, as a pitch team, we came together and locked in!!! We practiced for three hours straight during our break, and almost went crazy due to anxiety. But when we entered the Telus theatre, we composed ourselves and sat down to watch other pitch presentations.

And when our time came, we confidently gave our pitch to the huge Telus theatre and after 2 minutes, we sat back down with a huge relief of just finishing the presentation. And after more waiting, the voting begun. Everyone was quiet. But our cheers and happiness were loud afterwards when we found out we secured a spot for the pitch selection!!!

And this is just the beginning of team SafeSpace :D

Moving Forward...

After experiencing every single feeling throughout the past few weeks, we found SafeSpace’s full team; feel free to read our About Us page to learn more about the 5 designers and 3 fullstack devs who are working tirelessly to create SafeSpace.

So what’s next? In the upcoming weeks, we will have our first consultations with teachers and our advisor, as a team we will work together to solidify the idea of SafeSpace, and we will learn more about each other as tem members.

Please join us on SafeSpace’s journey, and enjoy watching it evolve from just a pitch idea to a fully developed and functional app made by us!
